For over a
year now, Unreal Mafia and Unreal Playground
have operated as separate entities with the same
goal: to support the UT community of level
designers, mod and mutator creators, and online
game players. While the sites have remained
separate, each has utilized the other for ideas
on providing the best in content, features, and
gameplay.
Both sites have numerous ideas
in mind to support the community with the
pending release of Unreal Tournament 2003. With
that in mind, we are very happy to announce a
merger of the two sites into one.
By
combining our resources, we will be able to
expand our offerings to the community in many
ways. There will be more features available at
the improved UnrealPlayground, many of which
will be announced in the next week or two. There
will now be a total of six game servers,
providing nearly all flavors of CTF and the
upcoming Bombing Run.
By bringing these
two communities together, we hope to continue to
provide for everyone’s UT needs, be it maps,
mods, mutators, game servers, forums, or ladders
and tournaments. With the additional resources
available, we will be able to provide a higher
level of functionality to support these needs,
both now and in the future.
An early
morning bank-run in a city ruled by the mafia.
Don't be fooled by the fancy buildings
on the "nice" side of town; the real power lies
in the mafia hideout on the rough side of the
city. Even the old government building in
the heart of town is now a run-down memory.
Hello all just
wanted to send a quick message that the demo is
officially released now and being currently
uploaded to several mirrior sites. Just a heads
up to anyone who is interested in these news =)
This version
uses the old netcode by default. Clients can
choose to enable/disable the new code if they
like. Hitsounds are now off by default, added
the enabling/disabling of behindview. Check the
readme for all the info.
The demo is nearly ready to go. It
should be out sometime within the next few days.
Keep watching this space (the stickies) for an
announcement. When it's ready we'll just be
releasing it randomly to a few major sites so
that hopefully it will spread like wildfire and
everyone will be able to get it from their
favorite games site. There won't be any special
exclusives or anything like that. We want
everyone to be enjoying it the minute it goes
live.
UnrealAdmin.org has a great
interview with DrSiN. It answers quite a few
questions geared towards the server admins. You
can read the entire interview here
Linux client will be
ready to go with the demo. It will be in a
separate download and have its own installer.
Linux server will be ready to go with
the demo.
If space permits then we hope
to put the Linux binaries and an end-user
installer on the CD. We have already approved
all the packaging so it won't be mentioned
regardless of whether it make it in or not.
There will be a Linux readme file that describes
how to install the game on Linux and covers
potential issues users are likely to see. But
note: like the Unreal Editor and the tools we
ship with the game, Linux is not officially
supported so there won't be any tech support for
it from Infogrames.
